Coaches Education & Certification Program

An individual will not be considered a legal coach until he/she has enrolled and attended the LHSAA CECP class. Serving in any capacity as a coach prior to being enrolled and attending the LHSAA CECP class will deem the individual an illegal coach and subject to all fines and penalties.

Any individual wishing to become a CECP coach MUST properly complete the registration forms, (located on the LHSAA website under FORMS and BULLETINS), acquire the signature of the LHSAA principal of the school where he/she wishes to serve, AND attend a CECP class.

The cost for the LHSAA CECP class is $100.00.

A valid Driver’s License must be shown at the time of registration.

The payment for the class must accompany the registration forms.

Please refer to the Deadline Dates located on the LHSAA website when scheduling the class you wish to attend.

The individual will have 30 days from the day of his/her attended class to complete and return the CECP exam and all necessary forms to the LHSAA office. Failure to do so will deem the individual an illegal coach and subject to all fines and penalties.

The above mentioned individual must also enroll and pass the National Federation of High School Associations Coaches Education Class.

The cost of the NFHS certification class is $35.00 and must be paid directly to the NFHS.

The individual will have until May 31st of the school year that they begin coaching to complete the course required through the NFHS.

The certificate earned through the completion of the NFHS course MUST be kept on file at the school where the individual is coaching and a copy MUST be submitted to the LHSAA office.

Failure to complete both the LHSAA CECP class and the NFHS Coaches Education Class will result in the individual being considered an illegal coach and the school will be subject to all fines and penalties including being prohibited from performing coaching duties at all levels of play in all LHSAA schools until he/she is in full compliance with the LHSAA Coaching Requirement Rule.

Once certified, CECP individuals can serve as assistant coaches in any sport BUT can ONLY serve as head coaches in the following sports: Baseball, Bowling, Cross Country, Golf, Gymnastics, Indoor/Outdoor Track & Field, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Tennis, and Wrestling.

Before ANY individual returns the CECP exam to the LHSAA office, he/she MUST meet with the principal of the school where he/she will be coaching and have the principal sign the verification form that is handed out at the CECP class.

This verification form MUST accompany the CECP exam bubble sheet.

Once an individual has attended a CECP class and passed the certification exam, he/she is eligible to join the Louisiana High School Coaches Association.

Membership to the LHSCA must be completed by the principal of the school that the individual is serving through the coaches online registration process. An individual cannot be registered until they have passed the CECP portion of the test.

Membership to the LHSCA is completely optional.

Schools must list all non-faculty coaches on the current school year’s Non-Faculty Roster Form .

IF ANY FORMS ARE MISSING THE TEST WILL NOT BE GRADED AND THE PACKET SENT BACK TO THE SCHOOL FOR NECESSARY CORRECTIONS AND PAPERWORK.

Deadline to submit the non-faculty roster from to the LHSAA office is October 15th.

Any late additions must be submitted in writing to the LHSAA office as individuals become certified.

If you have any questions, please contact Rhonda McCullough at the LHSAA office.
