The Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) along with Cajun Industries are proud to announce that Madeline Carrington, a sophomore at Pineville High School, has been named the winner of the 2012 Prep Classic Poster Contest.
As winner, Carrington will have her artwork featured on the cover of the Prep Classic souvenir program, which will be seen by thousands of football fans from across the state. In addition, she and her teacher, Jeanie Basco, will receive free hotel accommodations for one night along with free passes to the LHSAA State Farm Prep Classic Dec. 7 through 8, and they will be recognized at halftime of the 2012 5A State Championship game. Carrington will receive a $100 prize, and she will be featured in an article in the Prep Classic souvenir program.
Carrington, 15, is a student in the creative and performing arts program at Pineville under the director of Ms. Basco and Principal Karl Carpenter. She is the daughter of James and Robyn Carrington of Forest Hill, La. and credits her great-grandmother, Mrs. Joan Duck, for her success in the visual arts. According to Carrington, "My great-grandmother has helped me more than anyone. When I was younger, she told me to draw different objects everyday."
In her free time, Carrington enjoys reading, drawing, spending time with friends and family and playing guitar. She is a member of YACA and is an active church member at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Lecompte where she volunteers as an alter server. Carrington believes that competing in this contest has been a huge step for her artistically. Madeline states, " It has helped me broaden my art abilities and set goals for the future."
The LHSAA extends a huge congratulations to Carrington and also thanks the many students who participated in the contest.
