Game of the Week - Week 5

Posted: 10-02-2019 | Categories: Football

Louisiana high school football returned for this week’s Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Game of the Week. In week four it was a tough battle between McDonough 35 and Carver. The Carver Rams were held to a 3-0 lead for majority of the game until the McDonough 35 Roneagles were able to take the lead in the 2nd quarter as they scored the game’s only touchdown of the night. An intensely defensive game; no points were scored in the second half. In the end, it was the McDonough 35 Roneagles that secured a 6-3 win boosting their overall record to 2-3.

The week five Game of the Week will be a rival game between 3A schools Parkview Baptist Eagles (2-1) versus the University Lab Cubs (2-2). The Eagles will be facing the Cubs with only one loss on their overall recorded, and are looking to keep it that way. The strength of Parkview is substantially comprised of younger athletes including sophomore Garret Graham who will pair with the senior 1st year starter and quarterback Tanner Lawson to continue to compete and stay ahead of the chains. WR Jordan Gilbert and OL Josh Slaughter will play both sides of the ball, while LSU commit Jaquelon Roy will start at DE. The Eagles are excited to challenge the Cubs, establishing the run game early and staying physical throughout the four quarters.

The University Lab Cubs came out victorious in this previous matchup. New changes in coaching staff has been an adjustment but a welcomed challenge for the Cubs, as they will go into week five with an overall record of 2-2. The Cubs senior representation will include 14 guys, 3 of which are completely new to the team. Senior captains Desanto Rollins, Jacob Gilbert, and Harrison Warren are amongst the young men that will spearhead the pack. Chy Rivers on kickoff return will also be a solid asset to the special team group. A versatile and talented team will be a recognizable force and an exciting competition to watch.
