LHSAA Set to Select 2014 & 2015 State Championship Sites at June Executive Committee Meeting

BATON ROUGE, LA (May 23, 2013) — The Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) announced today that it will choose its 2014 and 2015 state championship sites for baseball, boys’ and girls’ soccer, boys’ and girls’ tennis and boys’ and girls’ basketball during its summer executive committee board meeting scheduled for June 5 – 7, 2013.

Interested venues had until May 1, 2013 to submit a Request for Proposal (RFP) to host a championship event. The LHSAA received RFP from the following venues for both the 2014 and 2015 championships.

• Southern University for classes 2A & 3A
• Sulphur Parks & Recreation (SPAR) for all classes

Boys’ & Girls’ Soccer:
• Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission at Independence Stadium
• Sacred Heart High School at New Orleans City Park

Boys’ & Girls’ Tennis:
• Monroe-West Monroe CVB at the University of Louisiana Monroe, Forsythe and Kiroli Parks
• Lafayette CVB at the University of Louisiana Lafayette
• Sacred Heart and Country Day high schools at the University of New Orleans’ Tennis Center and New Orleans City Park’s Tennis Center

Girls’ Basketball:
• Monroe-West Monroe CVB at the University of Louisiana Monroe’s Fant-Ewing Coliseum
• Hammond Steering Committee at Southeastern Louisiana University
• Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana CVB and Calcasieu Parish Police Jury at Burton Coliseum

Boys’ Basketball:
• Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission at the Century-Link Center
• Ruston Lincoln Parish CVB at Louisiana Tech University’s Thomas Assembly Center
• Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana CVB and Calcasieu Parish Police Jury at Burton Coliseum

Notification letters will be mailed Monday, June 10, 2013. The LHSAA thanks those entities that expressed an interest in hosting one of its state championship events for 2014 and 2015. The economic impact these events bring to host sites and their surrounding communities is immense, and the LHSAA encourages more cities/venues to submit RFPs to host one of its events in the future.

Fans are also encouraged to speak to their local convention and visitors bureaus and/or chambers of commerce about the possibilities of bringing a state championship event to their local communities.
